The band, also known as The SK6ERs, is made of many UMass alumni, including Kit Karlson who played tuba with the UMMB. The SK6ERs and the UMMB have enjoyed a close relationship, with the UMMB starring in the SK6ERs' 2009 "Shady Esperanto & The Young Hearts" music video. Both bands also performed this song during halftime of the Sept. 6, 2010 UMass football game.

On October 29, 2010, following the September death of UMMB director George Parks, the SK6ERs and members of the UMMB gave a tribute concert at the Calvin Theater in Northampton, MA.

Blast! is a Broadway production created by James Mason for Cook Group Incorporated, the director and organization formerly operating the Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corps. It was the 2001 Winner of the Tony Award for "Best Special Theatrical Event" and also won the 2001 Emmy Award for "Best Choreography".

The Minuteman Band's Thom Hannum was a member of the design team for Blast! and Blast II: Shockwave. Many UMMB alumni also performed with the Original Cast in London as well as the Broadway and touring casts in the US.
